Background checking who watches the watchers?

For all sorts of reasons, background checking is a growth business area. The internet has brought people checking services within reach of most businesses and even private individuals, but before using one, stop and consider who-if anyone- is checking up on the checkers. It’s true of any outfit but particularly relevant for internet sites offering goods and services and which may not have required significant capital investment or skill to set up, that you need to be able to trust the company before you can use it knowing your money is safe and that what you ordered will be what’s delivered.
Background checks are only as good as the company that performs them. It is no good trusting someone unknown to tell you about someone else that is unknown to you. So, how do you ensure that a supplier of criminal records checks or pre employment screening is trustworthy?
Firstly, there are plenty of top quality suppliers on the internet, so don’t discount that avenue. Using a company with an online presence is still the easiest and often the cheapest way of obtaining background checks. The main thing is to do your own piece of background checking on the company itself. It doesn’t take long to have a look at an online company and find what you need to know. Look at who the company is affiliated with and whether they are a well established business, and see who they have worked with in the past. The better background checking companies will be proud of their record and their place in the middle of a nest of business links and will display information like previous clients on their website.
Another indicator that you’ll get a high standard of service is an industry news or events section. Populated with the right kind of information, this says that the company is up to date with current practices- of utmost importance in this field. Once you’ve invested just a few minutes on your own background check, you can accept a satisfactory company’s results with confidence.
