Helping at the sailing club

By: Charlie Board

Spring is the time that sailing clubs ask their members for help with getting the club ready for the new season. Boat parks need tidying up and all the boats that have not been used for a while get moved to the less accessible area and boats that are regularly used put where they can be easily located. At the same time the boats can be checked for any winter damage and any small repairs that may be needed identified and logged for attention.

This is an ideal occasion to get out your sailing clothes and wear them as you assist your local sailing club in getting everything sorted out. It gives an opportunity to find out on dry land whether your foulies are still waterproof and if your sea boots are still sturdy and dry. Of course everyone plans to thoroughly check all their sailing clothing at the end of the season before putting it away, but once all the tasks on the boat have been done, the last rubbish has been disposed of and the last corner of the boat cover has been tied down, the only thought in most people’s minds is to get out of the cold and wet weather which is sure to have happened just as you had to put your boat to bed for the winter. So when you got home, the sailing clothing just got put into a cupboard as you breathed a sigh of relief that that job was done.

This means that before taking to the water, your sailing clothing needs to be checked over, so wearing it for a day doing chores at the sailing club is an easy way of doing this. Anything that is past repair can be easily replaced by us here at Scotts of Langholm, where we have a wide selection of sailing clothing of all types.
