Anti Agine Skin Care What You Should Know

By: Brad Bryson

Anti-ageing skin care products are very popular today, which is not surprising as we are all living longer, fuller lives so why shouldn't we want to look younger for ever? Collagen makes up approximately 25 percent of the total protein in the skin. Collagen is related to other anti-ageing substances in the body called anti-oxidants.

You probably know many anti-oxidants by name, including vitamin C, the use of which is still, even now, hotly debated in the science and nutrition community. Vitamin C formulated skin care treatments suffer with a particular problem of oxidizing on contact with the air which causes a problem for users and manufacturers.

To overcome this problem, manufacturers use alternative skin care treatments that still provide the same benefits but not the high manufacturing costs. These alternative products are not as effective as vitamin C but vitamin E and lipoic acid are anti-oxidants and are now being used.

It is found in the blood it is an anti-oxidant that is also used to increase the body's defences against other diseases. Lipoic acid is also an energy making component of the body, found in every cell, it can also help reduce the ageing process which affects the skin.

Another group of products used to reduce the visible signs of ageing are phytochemicals which are compounds extracted from various plants and used in many anti-ageing skin care products. A secondary but more important use of phytochemicals is the effect they have on the prevention of breast, prostate and colon cancers.

For some time now it has also been known that the vitamins B5, B6 and B12 also have anti-ageing skin care properties. The use of anti-ageing skin care products is a huge scientific field to research and has far greater potential than just producing goods that reduce the visible signs of age.

A great deal about the ageing process has already been learned and the products available today are already far more advanced than ten years ago but there is still a long way to go. There may be many challenges still to overcome but in time scientists believe they will succeed in producing more effective anti-ageing skin care products that are less expensive and available to more people.

In some respects the real way ahead lies in our own hands as there are many things we can do to reduce the signs of ageing naturally. Simple things that can make a difference in slowing the signs of ageing.
