PS3 Light Problem (Easy Solution/Fix)

By: Robert lMelkonyan

The play station 3 has its own "light of death" which is the yellow light similar to the red rings of death that its competitor the XBOX360 has. Fortunately for you though, the problem can be fixed if you follow a few troubleshooting steps and you have the ability to have your system back up and running in no time at all.

The first step that is recommended is to try to get the system to cool down. Usually the light comes on as a result of the system getting too hot. The most obvious step is to turn it off and unplug it. Let the system sit for a time period, usually an hour, in a cool room to allow all the internal components to cool off. You could also try to get the room where you are playing to be cooler so that if this does fix the issue it doesnt happen again. Typically this can be accomplished by using a fan close to the device or even turning up the air conditioning.

Ensure that all the cables are plugged into the device securely. You may even want to unplug them and then plug them back in afterwards. Be certain that they are plugged into the correct ports when you are finished. You could also use a can of compressed air to clean out the vents and get the dust that may have built up out of the device.

The next step if the basic troubleshooting doesnt work to fix the system is to determine how you intend to fix the hardware issue. The first and most obvious step is to send it back to the manufacturer, Sony. This option seems like it may be the easiest because they do all the work but this is only better if you are still covered under a warranty. If youre not then it is going to cost $150 in order for the problem to be resolved for you. They also may not even fix the problem. It happens more often than not that they will just ship you a new to you unit that is refurbished from their warehouse. This unit will work for some time but since time is what causes the problems, you may get the same issue a few months down the road and then have to do the same thing all over again. You also lose all the data on your hard drive when it is sent to Sony. They erase it all.

A better option is to try to fix the issue yourself. This can benefit in more ways than one because the device never leaves your possession and you dont lose the important data contained on your hard drive. You can use the powers and wealth of the knowledge available on the internet to find a guide that explains all the steps that you will need to follow in order to fix your yellow light problem. A good guide will contain in depth instructions along with pictures to help you.
