Resurrecting Junk: Motorcycle Salvage

Many bikers are extremely fond of their motorcycles. Although many of these bikers take very good care of their bikes, most motorcycles eventually die. Often the lifespan of a hard-ridden bike is a mere decade. Other motorcycles expire much earlier, usually due to a bad accident or fire. Other bikes are replaced with newer models.
When a motorcycle is retired, it most assuredly ends up in the boneyard, or motorcycle salvage yard. These junkyards provide the resting place for countless bikes of a variety of models. Often a walk through a junkyard will reveal bikes from many different decades. These bikes will be in different states of decay.
The motorcycle salvage yard doesn't necessarily spell the end for a motorcycle. With so many bikes and bike parts in one place, motorcycle salvage yards naturally become a destination for many people. These parts can be used to repair a broken down bike, or they can be used to create something entirely new. A team of engineers working in India used spare parts to create a new vehicle capable of seating eight people. This creation was made from spare parts more than twenty years old!
Visiting the Motorcycle Salvage Yard
Motorcycle salvage yards can be full of activity. Many bike enthusiasts visit to look for spare parts to keep their current bike in peak running condition. Additionally, lots of people just love to sift through the motorcycle salvage yard looking for interesting parts to create new gadgets from. It is common to find many different types of people trading for various old parts. Others are on the lookout for rare or valuable bikes long abandoned to the junkyard. For instance, the Suzuki Shogun is an often sought after bike that is no longer made. However, it remains an extremely popular bike due to its great features and attractive look. Bikes like this are always snatched up.
In addition to having many junked bikes, a motorcycle salvage yard is a great place to get information. Usually owners and employees of these junkyards are knowledgeable mechanics or bike enthusiasts. It is often possible to glean worthwhile knowledge from them or at least get help finding what you are looking for. The Internet is a great resource for finding out about particular parts too. Many motorcycle salvage yards have websites allowing customers to make inquiries without visiting the junkyard at all. It's possible to find that missing part and get it shipped from a junkyard anywhere in the country!
